Angourie Rock Pools

Yamba's surf culture has been borne from the beautiful beaches and amazing surfing that stretch the coast and bays of the area. Professional surfers, grommets and novices all seeking the perfect wave and an endless summer flock to Yamba and Angourie.

Yamba’s five stunning beaches provide a protected spot to learn to surf no matter the day, wind, tide or swell. Yamba’s neighbour Angourie is legendary within the surfing community for its superb breaks and natural beauty. Recently designated a National Surf Reserve you will find some of NSW's best surf beaches.

Yamba Main Beach and Ocean Pool

With the archetypal east coast ‘ocean pool’ built into the rocks at its southern end, one of NSW’s oldest Surf Lifesaving clubs centre-stage, and the iconic Pacific Hotel overlooking it all, Yamba’s Main Beach is so quaint, lovely and Australian you can’t help but grin when you’re there.

The beach is patrolled on weekends and during school holidays between September and Easter, and has well-considered disabled access.

Turners Beach

Turner's Beach is a popular swimming and surfing beach patrolled during the summer season. It is ideally located between the South Break Wall (a popular fishing spot) and the lighthouse; there is a path and steps from the beach leading up to the lighthouse.

The Break Wall is a popular fishing spot and perfect for a light stroll.

Whiting Beach Yamba

Whiting Beach is  the most sheltered beach in Yamba. It is a glorious, quiet beach, sheltered from all winds but a nasty northerly – an ideal setting for introducing toddlers and young ones to the ocean.  The sand dunes behind the beach are a great place for putting up the beach umbrella and enjoying the day. It is a short stroll into town if you need a coffee or lunch break.

Pippi Beach Yamba

Pippi long white sandy beach is the perfect spot to turn to when the wind is in the right direction. Wonderful for walking, surfing and swimming and at low tide a game of beach cricket.

Lying  on the southern-exposed side of Yamba’s brace of bay beaches it cops the brunt of any southern swells marching up the coast, and can be totally off limits when the sheltered Yamba beaches are pleasant. For kite surfers these can be perfect conditions.

But get a hot summers day, with a wind from the north or the west, and a tidy little swell, and Pippi turns on the turquoise charm and there’s no beach you’d rather be.

Convent Beach

If you like your beaches quiet, unassuming with a vague hint of devotional history, then Convent Beach is the place for you.Tucked into Yamba’s main bay, Convent Beach is a small, narrow affair, with vegetation providing shade, and separation from the houses that line the bluff above.

Angourie Beach

Angourie Point holds a special place in the big beating heart of Australian surfing. A small, steep sandy bay curves around to a boulder-lined right hand point break. To the north – an imposing rock shelf extends 150 metres to link with Spookys.

Angourie Blue Pools

A favourite with the kids the Blue and Green rock pools provide hours of fun jumping and splashing. With lots of jumps to choose from the pools are great for little kids and adventure seekers.

Spooky Beach

Out off Angouries' southern point lies the occasionally fearsome reef/point break known as “Spooks” – a wave of consequence suited to crusty local warriors. Inside the bay, Spooky beach is a picture perfect for swimming, boogie boarding and sand games. The rock pools at either end of the beach are great for crab spotting and exploring and there are easy tracks to the legendary Green and Blue Pools.

Miners Beach

Accessed via the north-facing steps from the Green Point carpark, this is a rock-strewn cove that’s little but cliffs and backwash at high tide, and a few patches of sand at low. It’s not without a certain charm though, possibly due to how quiet it generally is, the beautiful stonework on the steps leading down to the beach, the colours and patterns on the low sandstone cliffs, the aesthetics of the rocks on the northern (Miners) end and the southern flank of boulders connecting it all with Green Point.
